Next week, the Metro Board will consider the future of buses in Los Angeles.

Metro is concluding an 18-month process called “NextGen” to completely re-design and improve the County’s bus network (details here). We need to mobilize support from bus riders for Metro's NextGen Bus Plan and ensure the plan is funded and implemented (Agenda Item 21).

1 - A world class bus system. We want Metro to support $1B over five years in capital improvements to the bus system, starting with at least $100M in the 2021 Fiscal Year Budget.

2 - Increase in service hours. We want Metro to increase revenue service hours to 9.4 million hours from the current 7 million hours.

3 - Personalize it. What does the bus system mean to you? How do long headways or a bus being stuck in traffic impact you? The more personal you can make it, the better.

4 - Demand the NextGen decision makers take the bus. Lived experience matters. We want those in charge of improving our bus system to understand its challenges firsthand by committing to taking the bus at least once per week.

Metro normally gives 1 minute for public comment, so please be ready to be succinct and to the point.
