Since the 1970s, the City of Los Angeles has designated W. 4th St. as a bike-friendly street to go between Mid City and DTLA, and many cyclists use it often to make the trek. However, the crossings at 4th / Highland and 4th / Rossmore are dangerous. They both lack signals, which creates a chaotic scene during rush hour. The intersections are equally dangerous for pedestrians and cause Waze cut-through traffic to make otherwise quiet residential streets busy and dangerous. After a motion of support passed the GWNC Transportation Committee, it's coming up for a full board vote (agenda item 9C).
Action items:
1- Show up and make public comment in support of the 4th St Greenway project and specifically in support of two new lights for bikes with diverters for cars at 4th / Highland and 4th / Rossmore. If you have a personal story or experience biking this street you can share - even better!
When: Wednesday, February 12, 2019. 7pm (item will probably come up by ~8pm).
Where: The Ebell of Los Angeles, 743 S Lucerne Bl, Los Angeles CA 90005
2 - If you know someone who lives in the Greater Wilshire NC area - let them know about the proposal and encourage them to show up and give public comment in support. The board is likely to give greater weight to comments by people that live in the area.
3 - If you are unable to show up tomorrow night, email your thoughts. Again, the more personal you can make your letter of support, the better.
